The APOA conducted it's second annual "Christmas Gift Card Giveaway" on December 21st, 2020. Last year, Executive Board officer Norm Fisher proposed the idea for the APOA to giveaway $100 gift cards to families shopping for Christmas. The membership overwhelmingly approved, and a successful campaign was born. With all that has happened to our community and the people we serve, it seemed even more important to do it again. When the executive board requested the approval of funds for a second giveaway, there was no hesitation. The members all agreed that helping out their neighbors was the right thing to do during a pandemic-stricken 2020 Christmas. On a cool Monday evening, four days before Christmas, APOA members hit all four Amarillo Wal-Mart Supercenters. Together, they handed out $4,000 worth a gift cards to families on every side of town. It was a wonderful experience, giving back to people at a time like this. Executive Board Officer Carmela Odgen said, "It was very humbling. I have never heard so many people say that they were praying to God for a break and God answers prayers." We hope we brought a little joy to someone this Christmas season. Thank you Amarillo for allowing us to serve you.
