2021 Boots and Badges blood drive kick-off event smashes one-day record!

The 2021 Coffee Memorial Boots and Badges blood drive kick-off party was held on Friday, June 25th.  This event was born in 2009 out of an effort for community outreach by the APOA executive board.  They contacted Coffee Memorial Blood Center, and the two entities partnered with the Amarillo Fire Department to create the yearly 2-month long blood campaign.  The kick-off party ran from 6 am to 7 pm, and included a cookout by the APOA, a police motorcycle rodeo, free kid's IDs by APD Crimestoppers, and an emergency vehicle car show with all area LE and Amarillo Fire Department vehicles displayed.  Last year during the pandemic, the drive drew a record 420 blood procedures.  This year, on the previous day, the blood center announced that it was in a dangerous emergency need of all blood types, with a less than one-day blood supply on hand.  The community responded, and BnB's drew 541 blood procedures in one day!  There were lots of families there to enjoy the food, interact with police and fire, donate, and support a great cause.  It was an exhausting, but fantastic day!  Thank you to everyone that participated!!!
